IT News on October 6th: According to Reuters, the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea has announced a special plan with a total scale of 4.7 trillion Korean won (Note from IT: The current exchange rate is approximately 23.303 billion yuan). Starting from March 2027, efforts will be made to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence large models. Seoul hopes to gain a foothold in the global competition in this field of AI.

The Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea stated that after the South Korean National Assembly approves the budget for the 2027 fiscal year in December, the government will select the lead developer for this project through competitive bidding; the winning bidder is expected to be determined as early as February of the following year.
The South Korean government plans to combine national equity investment with private capital, focusing computing power chips, data, and talent resources on this project, with the goal of creating a AI model that ranks among the world's leading performers.
The South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT also stated that this new initiative is independent of the existing domestic large-scale model research and development projects; the original projects will continue to be pursued, and two final development teams will be selected during the third-phase evaluation in February 2027. The project is open for applications from various entities, including individual companies, corporate consortia, and special purpose entities. The South Korean government hopes that startups, large corporations, universities, and researchers can all play a leading role in this project.
