On October 7th, according to a report from technology media MacRumors, a blog post was published yesterday (October 6th) stating that in the beta versions of audioOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2, more information about "Apple's most powerful home theater" emerged. This allows Apple TV 4K to connect with 4 HomePod to create a four-channel surround sound system consisting of left front, right front, left back, and right back speakers.

Currently, all Apple TV 4K models only support creating stereo sound with two HomePod or HomePod mini. If a four-speaker setup is implemented, it will mark the first time that the limitation of two-channel sound has been broken, expanding the audio output capabilities of home theaters.

During the update from audioOS 27.2 to Beta, netizen @itspdfu noticed that Apple had added code related to the multi-HomePod surround system. This code allows Siri to identify and match each speaker within the surround system.

IT Note: audioOS is not an official term; it mainly refers to the common names for systems applicable to HomePod and HomePod mini.

After joining the home theater group that is compatible with Apple TV, it will be possible to pass Siri requests to Apple TV through a new proxy activation mechanism; the system has also added lighting animations when touch operations are denied. However, these features are still in the testing phase, and the official release time as well as the final range of functions have not yet been determined.

macOS In version 27.2 of the third test build, two new SF symbols have been added to represent the layout of four speakers in a room. One of these symbols shows a HomePod top view, while the other is labeled as a home theater setup. The time when these icons were added coincides precisely with the HomePod rumors.

According to information revealed by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple may release new HomePod, mini, and Apple TV 4K models on October 13th, and it is also possible that the full-size HomePod will be updated simultaneously.
