San Francisco, October 8th / PRNewswire / -- The OCUDU Foundation, a collaborative initiative organized by Linux Foundation with the aim of promoting the development of the open-source RAN ecosystem, announced today that the OCUDU technology project has been released on OCUDU October 26th. This version significantly expands the project's open-source CU / DU platform capabilities, adding support for 3GPP Release 17 non-terrestrial networks (NTN), 8T8R MIMO, enhanced beamforming and multi-beam operation, O- RAN Split 7.2b, native 5G positioning, as well as features designed to reduce latency and enhance security.

This version reflects that the scope of application for the open-source RAN technology is expanding. As operators, suppliers, researchers, and governments explore more flexible advanced wireless infrastructure solutions, OCUDU 26.10 provides developers and implementers with more options to build and test complex 5G networks by extending the platform to include ground and satellite connections, higher-order antenna configurations, positioning, and more O-RAN architectures, while also laying the foundation for emerging 6G use cases.

Linux Foundation Network, Edge, and IoT General Manager Arpit Joshipura stated: "Open-source RAN is moving from basic implementations towards more complex capabilities that can support a wider range of real-world networks. OCUDU On October 26th, significant advancements in satellite connectivity, radio performance, positioning, and interoperability were integrated into an open-source platform. Since the establishment of the OCUDU ecosystem foundation within Linux Foundation, it has gained 95 new members, the number of active contributors to technical projects has doubled, and the number of organizations participating has increased tenfold, providing a common foundation for the industry to advance the future of 5G and next-generation networks."

OCUDU The main capabilities of 26.10 include:

  • Wider range of connection and deployment options: 3GPP Release 17 NTN supports the integration of 5G satellite connectivity into OCUDU, while O- RAN Split 7.2b provides greater flexibility in the distribution of radio processing within the network.
  • Higher performance and lower latency: The 8T8R MIMO technology, enhanced beamforming, and multi-beam operation improve wireless capacity and flexibility, while a two-step RACH process, including upstream pre-scheduling and configuration authorization, reduces connection and upstream response times.
  • New positioning and security capabilities: Native 5G positioning has expanded support for location-aware applications, while ongoing fuzz testing, participation in OSS-Fuzz and DTLS signaling encryption have enhanced the platform's security and resilience.

The chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee, OCUDU, and the Chief Technology Officer, SRS, stated: "On OCUDU October 26th, we introduced Split 7.2b, enhanced MIMO, and the satellite NTN. We are grateful for the feedback and contributions from the community; these improvements are strengthening the project and expanding its capabilities."

OCUDU 26.10 is now available.

OCUDU Ecosystem Developer Summit 2026

OCUDU Community will hold the OCUDU Eco-Developer Summit from October 20th to 22nd in Alexandria, Virginia. This event is co-hosted by Virginia Tech and Commonwealth Cyber Initiative. Over these three days, developers, researchers, operators, suppliers, and ecosystem partners will come together to engage in technical collaboration, hands-on learning, and discussions surrounding open-source RAN, real-world deployment, integration, as well as the future of 5G and 6G wireless innovations.

Can the government really suppress oil prices through emergency reserves?
When oil prices soar, the government can draw on emergency oil reserves to release more crude oil into the market, thereby alleviating shortages and curbing sharp price increases. However, such reserves cannot permanently replace lost production. The article takes the coordinated release of strategic oil reserves by the United States and the International Energy Agency as examples to illustrate that emergency releases can change short-term supply and demand balances and market expectations, but the reserves will eventually be depleted, and the process of replenishing them in the future may itself support oil prices.

The mathematical solution for OpenAI has not yet met the standards of the academic community.
OpenAI released hundreds of solutions this week claiming to solve the world's most difficult mathematical problems, but a consulting organization on mathematics and artificial intelligence led by Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study believes that their approaches still do not meet key criteria such as emphasizing human understanding. Meanwhile, a new paper by scholars from the University of Cambridge and King's College London points out that there are differences between the natural language proof provided by OpenAI for a problem related to the Navier-Stokes equations and the code from Lean.
