Community members, advisors, and others have warned that the so-called SHIB airdrops circulating on social media do not exist; in fact, the related links are actually wallet stealers. Users should not click on them or grant any authorization.

Long-term active members of the Shiba Inu community, Shiba Eternity consultants, and Mazrael have warned that a false SHIB alert is circulating on social media. They described this type of activity as a wallet thief and urged users not to interact with the shared links.

An obviously fraudulent X account claimed that the “SHIB Airdrop Boom” was back, and stated that they were eligible after checking their wallet, while also attaching a link to a fraudulent website.

Mazrael reminded Shiba Inu in the post to be cautious of this fake SHIB campaign, stating that such a free distribution does not exist at all. It is actually a wallet thief, and urged users not to interact with these links.

Be careful. There is no such airdrop at all. This is a scammer's tool, Mazrael wrote. He added that such fraudulent posts are flooding the timeline in large numbers and urged users not to click on these links, while also recommending reporting the relevant accounts or posts.

A fraudulent airdrop page may require users to connect their wallets, or ask for users to approve a transaction or token permissions. Depending on what the victims sign or authorize, attackers may gain the ability to transfer assets from the connected wallets.

Explanation of the encryption thief tool

As mentioned earlier, Mazrael describes the tactics used by scammers against the owners of Shiba Inu as "thieves."

Encryption stealers are a type of malware or phishing tool specifically designed to directly steal digital assets from cryptocurrency wallets. Unlike traditional phishing attacks that target usernames and passwords, encryption stealers aim to gain control over the smart contract permissions and transaction authorization of the wallets. These stealers can also operate through malicious browser extensions or compromised decentralized applications.

Firstly, scammers create fake websites that impersonate legitimate platforms; in the case mentioned in Mazrael, the URL shared is a fake link to Shiba Inu, while Shib.io is still the official website of Shib.

Scammers promote these malicious links with the intent to deceive unsuspecting users, inducing them to connect their cryptocurrency wallets to that website.

Once connected, a transaction window will pop up on the website, but in reality, this is an authorization request or a malicious signature. Once the user signs it, they unknowingly grant the thief smart contract permissions, allowing them to spend or transfer tokens.

Therefore, it is recommended that encrypted users verify the official project channels before clicking on links shared on social media or on Discord, even if these links appear to come from verified accounts.
