San Jose, USA, October 13th / PRNewswire / -- QuickLogic Corporation (Nasdaq ticker: QUIK) announced today that it has won a new eFPGA Hard IP design contract for a programmable system-on-chip (SoC), with target applications including battery management, precision motor control, and industrial robotics, utilizing 16-nanometer automotive process technology.
The company stated that this six-figure initial contract is expected to generate licensing revenue in the next six months, and royalty income will be generated after mass production and shipment begin.
This design contract has expanded QuickLogic's presence in the rapidly growing markets for robotics and battery management semiconductors. The company states that the growth of these markets is driven by the increasing adoption of electric vehicles, battery energy storage systems, renewable energy infrastructure, and industrial manufacturing management solutions. This project also continues the company's strategy to expand the application scope of its eFPGA Hard IP, focusing on scenarios with longer product lifecycles, continuously evolving algorithms, and a need for flexibility after silicon processing.
QuickLogic IP Vice President of Sales, Andy Jaros stated: "Battery management systems, industrial applications, and robotics are exciting growth markets. In these areas, adaptability and a longer product lifecycle are becoming increasingly important. As these systems become more intelligent and software-driven, developers need the flexibility to evolve hardware functions throughout the entire product lifecycle. Our eFPGA Hard IP provides this capability while maintaining the efficiency advantages of customization SoC."
The company states that battery management systems are becoming increasingly complex, demanding higher energy density, faster charging, longer service life, greater safety, and stronger system intelligence. Similarly, dedicated motor control systems also need to reduce energy consumption, extend operational life, and achieve early fault detection. As control algorithms and system requirements continue to evolve, SoC developers are in increasing need of hardware flexibility without sacrificing the power consumption, performance, and cost advantages achieved by ASIC.
QuickLogic indicates that its eFPGA Hard IP allows developers to directly incorporate programmable hardware functions into SoC, enabling them to adjust algorithms, implement new features, accelerate critical workloads, and extend the product lifecycle without the need for expensive silicon chip redesigns.
This SoC will utilize the QuickLogic-exclusive Australis ™ eFPGA IP Generator, in order to generate programmable logic arrays optimized for specific customer requirements regarding performance, power consumption, and area. Embedded programmable logic can be used for hardware acceleration, security functions, communication interfaces, advanced control algorithms, and other application-oriented features.
