Apple has officially entered a new product category: smart home.
The company announced on Tuesday the launch of HomeView, a connectivity hub driven by AI designed to be placed at home for controlling connected home appliances. The device consists of a 7-inch screen and a speaker base, and can be used in conjunction with Siri.
He stated that this product "can recognize your face, allowing the device to switch from a shared family screen to a personalized experience for you, providing stunning sound effects. Through FaceTime, it keeps you connected with the people who matter most to you, and makes controlling smart home devices a breeze."
Apple's new HomeView is priced at $299, with pre-orders starting on Tuesday, and it is scheduled to be available on November 13th.

This is the second major new device announced by the new Apple CEO, John Ternus. Ternus took over from Tim Cook in September and became the CEO at the company's iPhone press conference. At that conference, Ternus also unveiled the first foldable smartphone, iPhone, which will go on pre-sale later this week.
Although Apple has long supported the smart home ecosystem through the HomeKit standard, allowing third-party device manufacturers to choose to adopt this standard to help their devices integrate more smoothly with iPhone, HomeView indicates that Apple believes the smart home market is worth competing in with its own hardware.
If this new device is successful, it will become a more difficult decision for consumers to leave the Apple ecosystem – or in other words, to “break up” with Apple in favor of Amazon, Samsung, Google, or other competitors. Apple is known for its deep integration of software and hardware.
This is a report in progress...
