A person who has been actively involved in the political affairs of Meta for a long time and played a key role in helping the company establish connections with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is about to leave their position.
Axios first reported that Joel Kaplan, the Chief Global Affairs Officer of Meta, will leave the company after the mid-term elections and at the end of a transition period. Meta has confirmed this report to Business Insider.
Kaplan was once an artillery officer in the United States Marine Corps and also a Republican. He served as an advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff under former President George W. Bush.

Kaplan joined Meta in 2011. During his time at Meta, he was responsible for the company's response to a series of policy issues, ranging from the Cambridge Analytica scandal to the termination of fact-checking projects.
After Meta temporarily banned Trump's account following the riots on January 6th, Kaplan helped to repair the once-tense relationship between Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, and Trump.
On Tuesday, Kaplan posted on X that he plans to spend time with his family and consider what his next steps will be.
Kaplan did not respond to the comment request for Business Insider.
