Montreal and Tel Aviv, Israel, October 21st / PRNewswire / -- Global fintech company Nuvei announced today that it has obtained a direct acquiring license in Israel, bringing the country into its network that covers 53 international markets.

This license expands the direct acquiring network of Nuvei and advances its “Every Payment Everywhere” strategy: to deeply establish itself within the local payment ecosystem, while connecting businesses on a global scale through a single infrastructure. For Israel, this means providing stronger local capabilities for global brands operating locally, as well as offering more comprehensive services to Israeli companies that are already using Nuvei and wish to expand overseas.

Nuvei Chairman and CEO Phil Fayer stated: "Business is global, but payment experiences are localized. Obtaining this license means that we can now provide local and global customers with the payment experiences they desire directly within Israel, while also supporting their broader ambitions beyond Israel. Israel has been an important part of the Nuvei story for over 20 years, and this milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to local businesses, talent, and the tech ecosystem."

Improve Israel's payment performance

Direct acceptance allows Nuvei to directly connect to Israel's local bank card payment ecosystem, eliminating one layer of intermediary acquirers. Combined with the existing gateway capabilities of Nuvei, this will help enterprises:

  • Improve authorization performance: Processing transactions locally can enhance the confidence of issuing banks, which helps to increase the authorization rate and reduce unnecessary rejections.
  • Reduce payment costs: Directly connecting to the local ecosystem can reduce intermediary acquiring relationships and the additional costs they incur.
  • Enhanced checkout experience: By more closely integrating checkout, authorization, and fraud management, consumer friction can be reduced and conversion rates can be improved.
  • Simplify market expansion: Global brands can utilize these capabilities in the same way as they do in other markets through integration with Nuvei, reducing the number of suppliers and integrations that need to be managed.
  • Gain stronger operational control: More comprehensive transaction data, along with integrated reconciliation and reporting, enables enterprises to have a clearer understanding of the entire payment lifecycle.

This license was granted by the Israel Securities Authority in accordance with the Payment Services and Payment Initiation Law (5783-2023). Nuvei has also obtained acquiring licenses Visa and Mastercard respectively.

Build an infrastructure where "every payment is omnipresent"

Israel's tech industry inherently has a global presence. According to data from the Israel Innovation Authority, in 2025, about 775 new high-tech companies were established in the country, and high-tech exports reached a record of 85 billion US dollars, accounting for 58% of Israel's total exports. For many Israeli tech companies, international expansion has been a foundation for growth from the very beginning.

Nuvei supports this growth by providing a single partner for enterprises during their expansion process, covering local acquiring, currencies, payment methods, payments, risk management, and cross-market reporting. The company further expanded this network with launches in Mexico and South Africa earlier in 2026.

Nuvei has been operating in Israel for 20 years and has employed over 300 local staff. The company recently announced an agreement to acquire Payoneer for approximately $2.75 billion. If completed, this will further strengthen its presence in the region and expand Nuvei's global capabilities in local and cross-border business.
