Stone Mountain, Georgia, USA, October 22 (Reuters) – VPP, a pioneer in residential virtual power plant (VPP) energy storage systems, sonnen USA, today announced company progress and a series of milestones following the sale of its parent company by Shell to a family office investment group headquartered in Malta and Germany, TIVEN.
TIVEN has acquired 100% of the global business of sonnen, which includes its rapidly growing business in the United States, as well as sonnen and USA. This transaction takes place after a year of record growth for the company, which was primarily driven by its strategic VPP collaboration with SOLRITE in Texas, New England, California, and other emerging markets. sonnen stated that its sales have doubled year-over-year, production has increased by three times, and it has expanded its local manufacturing capacity in Stone Mountain, Georgia, reducing its dependence on the global supply chain. The company expects to deliver over 180 MWh residential energy storage products in 2026 alone.
sonnen USA Chief Executive Officer Blake Richetta stated: " sonnen USA will continue to focus on bold VPP market innovations and will continue to achieve success in the United States, delivering the products and services that our partners and customers rely on."
" TIVEN is firmly committed to the long-term success of sonnen and USA, supporting them in becoming a strong and leading company in North America's VPP energy market."
Since 2025, sonnen has seen significant growth in Texas. Its collaboration with SOLRITE under the VPA (virtual power plant power purchase agreement) has integrated rooftop photovoltaics, sonnen batteries, smart energy management, and VPP to form a complete energy solution that covers over 6,000 households. In Massachusetts, sonnenCommunity allows homeowners within the service areas of National Grid or Eversource to receive cash rewards by installing sonnen battery and photovoltaic systems without affecting their lifestyle, thereby maximizing their benefits. The Wattsmart VPP project of sonnen also experienced substantial sales growth in Utah in 2026 and has gained national recognition for its innovation and long-term feasibility since its launch in 2021.
TIVEN indicates: "The VPP solution market for residential properties in North America is of considerable size, and we are delighted to collaborate with true pioneers in this field, sonnen, to enter this market."
“Blake and its team have created sonnen USA for this moment, enabling residents, developers, solar service providers, and utility companies to cope with rising energy costs and fluctuations. We look forward to further driving the strong growth of the company.”
