South Korean chip manufacturer SK Hynix saw its stock price fall by 3% in Seoul on Friday morning after it halted the evaluation of its subsidiary Solidigm's potential initial public offering (IPO) in the United States.

The company stated in its announcement that, after evaluating the recent capital market conditions and stock price trends, “Solidigm will cease assessing potential Pre-IPO and IPO options.” The announcement also mentioned that, amid the growing memory demands for AI, the company is exploring various financing options to fund a new semiconductor wafer factory in the United States.

This chip manufacturer stated that IPO could have potentially helped to finance the expansion of Solidigm, while also providing greater financial flexibility for shareholder returns, including dividends, stock repurchases, and share cancellations.

However, the company stated that increased volatility in financial markets has led to a broader correction in semiconductor stocks, which has prompted SK Hynix to re-evaluate whether IPO will benefit existing shareholders.

The company also stated that the existing production capacity of Solidigm is limited, making it difficult to meet the continuously rising memory demands driven by AI. This highlights the necessity of increasing manufacturing capacity in the United States.

This decision also came after regulatory reviews in South Korea.

According to Reuters, South Korean financial regulators stated on Monday that if Solidigm goes public in the United States, it may violate South Korea's regulations regarding dual listings.

The chairman of the Financial Services Commission of South Korea, Lee Chan - jin, stated that the regulatory authorities are reviewing whether this IPO needs to be audited in accordance with South Korea's regulations aimed at protecting minority shareholders.

Hynix stated that the investment needs of Solidigm have not changed, and the company will continue to explore other financing options to support the growth of this subsidiary and enhance shareholder value.

At the time of this announcement, U.S. tech stocks were under pressure due to market concerns regarding AI spending. The Nasdaq Composite Index, which is dominated by tech stocks, fell 2.6% on Thursday, recording its worst single-day performance since June; NVIDIA declined by 4.4%, and Supermicro Semiconductor dropped by 8.1%.

As memory stocks faced selling pressure, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated on Thursday that despite market concerns about weakening demand, he expects there to be no oversupply of memory chips by 2029.

As concerns about financing risks and the expansion speed of AI's infrastructure intensify, stocks related to AI data centers are also under pressure. The stock price of CoreWeave plummeted by 10% on Thursday, with the monthly decline expanding to 36%; Australia's NextDC saw a nearly 40% drop on Wednesday after its profit forecasts were lowered.

Tether Investing in Bolivia: USDT to Move from Cross-Border Prepaid Services to Restaurants, Cash Registers, and Local Banks
On October 21st, Tether announced that it would lead the seed round of financing for Bolivian fintech company Peso, with the goal of expanding USDT payment infrastructure in Latin America. The focus of the news is not on the amount of financing—no specific figure was provided in the official announcement—but rather on the various daily payment links that Peso aims to connect: users hold and transfer USDT within applications, merchants receive payments through digital services or cash registers, and funds then flow through the local banking system. Truly connecting these links is much more complex than simply adding a new token to a wallet.

Circle requires that USDC铸造 and redemption orders be matched first: Match Auctions change the fees, not the price of stablecoins
On October 22, Circle introduced Circle Match: Eligible Circle Mint customers can match minting and redemption requests for USDC in hourly auctions. The matching orders on the minting side receive rebates, while the redemption side pays settlement fees within the specified rules. At first glance, it seems like a new stablecoin trading market, but the legal terms of Circle draw clear boundaries: Match determine the fees and rebates for matching orders, but do not set the price of USDC, nor do they alter the holders' right to exchange one USDC for one dollar after deducting the corresponding fees according to the applicable terms. What it attempts to optimize is the flow of funds in and out of the issuance system.

Japan's core CPI rose 2.1% year-on-year in September: Prices back above 2%, we can't just look at one "core" figure
On October 23, the Statistics Bureau of Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications released the national consumer price index for September 2026. Using 2025 as the base year of 100, the composite index was 102.2, showing a year-on-year increase of 2.1%; the composite index excluding fresh food was 102.3, also with a year-on-year increase of 2.1%; and the index excluding both fresh food and energy was 102.8, with a year-on-year increase of 2.4%. Although these three figures appear similar, they answer different questions: the first figure considers all prices included in the basket, the second reduces fluctuations in fresh food prices, and the third further eliminates the impact of energy costs. If one single figure is chosen to describe inflation in Japan, it is easy to overlook these structural differences.
