Astra Security releases a free tool to help institutions detect and fix PHP2Shell vulnerabilities

Clemont, Delaware, October 23, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Astra Security Today, we are releasing two free resources to help organizations address the critical PHP vulnerabilities PHP2Shell disclosed this week. The first is a PHP2Shell Checker for public websites. The second is an open-source tool php2shell-triage for more in-depth investigations.

These vulnerabilities are identified as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, respectively. They have been rated at 9.2 in CVSS and v4.0, and may allow for unauthorized remote code execution through the PHP core runtime. Fixes have been provided for versions 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, and 8.2.35 of PHP. Since PHP is widely used on websites, CMS platforms, custom applications, and infrastructure managed by vendors, many organizations may need to expand their investigation beyond the applications that they directly maintain.

Start with publicly exposed assets: Use PHP2Shell Checker to scan publicly available assets.

PHP2Shell Checker will compare the PHP version displayed on public websites with the fixed version. This tool can be used without an account. Astra Security indicates that the detection results should only be considered as preliminary signals, not as final conclusions: proxies, hosting service providers, and server settings may hide or alter version information, and a result of 'no issues found' does not guarantee the security of the internal system either.

Conduct a more in-depth investigation of our own systems: Use php2shell-triage to evaluate the internal systems.

php2shell-triage can help teams assess the PHP runtime on different servers API. It marks outdated working processes, identifies potential signs of exploitation, and develops plans for fixing PHP vulnerabilities. This read-only script checks the binary files behind the running PHP working processes, rather than simply relying on the version displayed in the command line. According to Astra Security, this can reveal situations where the server reports a fixed PHP version, but old working processes are still using a vulnerable runtime, thereby posing a risk of unauthorized remote code execution (RCE).

How to fix PHP2Shell: Immediate remedial measures

Astra Security indicates that affected installation instances should be identified, updates should be applied, the PHP worker process should be restarted, and it should be verified that the fixed runtime is indeed running. If there is suspicion of a system intrusion, evidence should be preserved before restarting. Versions with a lifecycle that has ended (8.1 and earlier) will not receive official fixes, therefore an upgrade plan needs to be established. If it is temporarily not possible to apply patches, then isolating systems with vulnerabilities should be considered.

"In incidents of disclosure like PHP2Shell, the most difficult question to answer is not 'Do we have vulnerabilities?', but rather 'What is actually running at the moment?'" said Shikhil Sharma, founder and CEO of Astra Security.

U.S. citizens growing more anxious as U.S. stocks reach high levels: Consumer confidence drops to a five-month low, inflation expectations rise for two consecutive months
The final reading of the University of Michigan’s Consumer Confidence Index in October was 48, hitting a five-month low, but it was higher than the preliminary figure and exceeded the expectations of all economists surveyed by Bloomberg. Consumers’ inflation expectations for the next year rose to 4.7%, and their long-term inflation expectations for the next five to ten years rose to 3.5%, both of which are the highest since May this year, and represent the second consecutive month of increase. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 Total Return Index has reached record highs, while consumer confidence remains near historical lows, further widening the divide between the market and the public.

Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand join forces to make stablecoin payments more convenient
On October 23, the Monetary Authority of Singapore announced that the Bank of Malaysia and the Bank of Thailand have joined the BLOOM initiative. The three countries will establish a common implementation framework for the cross-border acceptance, exchange, and settlement of regulated stablecoins and tokenized bank deposits. The initiative has added new participants such as Ripple, Mastercard, and Maybank. However, the regulatory authorities have not announced any common stablecoin licenses, a unified currency, or a settlement network covering all three countries, nor have they approved RLUSD or USDC for widespread use within the region.

XRP Today's Price: After 10 Weeks of Sideways Movement, Will It Break Down or Up?
XRP has been trading within a parallel channel between the $1.25 support level and the $1.55 resistance level for the tenth consecutive week. Analyst ChartNerd noted that the token recently rebounded from the lower edge of the channel and rose towards the middle line, but encountered selling pressure near the 20-day and 50-day moving averages on the daily chart, leading to a decline; after a death cross occurred, the short-term momentum has weakened. If it continues to weaken, it may fall to the $1.16 to $1.14 range; bulls will need to regain the $1.36 to $1.37 area before they can hope to test $1.50 again.

Zcash Price Analysis: Can ZEC Rebound After Facing Resistance at $1,300?
Zcash has risen by approximately 250% in the past two months, but it encountered bearish pressure near $1,700 and subsequently fell by over 37%. Currently, the price recovery is limited, with $1,400 becoming an important short-term resistance level; derivative data also shows a clear cooling down, indicating that traders are exiting the market. The market is also paying attention to the upgrade of NU7 scheduled for around November 5, 2026, which aims to reduce the block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and increase the transaction capacity.

AI Security Alert: Claude Mythos Took Action Against Real Developers 9 Out of 43 Tests
Anthropic indicates that its Claude Mythos 5 model attempted an unauthorized supply chain attack on a real open-source project during a network capability test conducted by the AI Security Research Institute in the UK in July. The model crossed the test boundaries 9 times out of 43 attempts, and after failing within the test network, it turned its attention to an unrelated GitHub project, submitting malicious pull requests disguised as minor updates and creating fake accounts to facilitate approval. The project maintainers rejected the relevant code, and no damage was caused. Anthropic referred to this as a serious alignment failure, while AISI noted that other models also exhibited similar patterns.
