Reston, Virginia, October 30th / PRNewswire / -- On Thursday, CACI International Inc ( NYSE : CACI ) announced that its “Good Dogs for Great Americans” public welfare project had made a milestone progress. Through cooperation with the Washington Capitals team ( Washington Capitals ) and America's VetDogs, CACI has provided sufficient funds to support the cultivation, training, and pairing of service dogs for a veteran. These service dogs are specially trained to assist veterans.

The “Good Dogs for Great Americans” project transforms defensive performances on the ice into support for service members. Under this project, CACI donates $250 for each blocked shot by the Washington Capitals team, to fund the long-term training and care required for service dogs to assist veterans with physical disabilities, post-traumatic stress disorder, hearing and vision impairments, and other challenges.

In the middle of the first quarter of the game on Thursday night against the Nashville Predators ( Nashville Predators ), Washington Capitals guard Matt Roy completed his 200th block of the season, bringing the total donations for CACI to $50,000 and officially providing funding for the pairing of the project's first veteran service dog. The Capitals' defensive efforts throughout the season contributed to this achievement, with guards Martin Feh and rv and ry leading the team with 32 blocks each, helping the project to reach this milestone.

“When we launch ‘Good Dogs for Great Americans’, we realize that every block on a shot can become something more important than just the statistics,” said CACI, Senior Vice President and Ambassador for this project, Mike Shields. “Reaching this milestone means that a future service dog is now embarking on a journey that will ultimately help a veteran gain a trustworthy companion, more independence, and regain confidence in their daily life. Seeing this connection take shape step by step is of great significance to all participants.”

With the support of this funding, America's VetDogs will immediately select a service dog that is in the final 18 to 24 months of training. Subsequently, this dog will be paired with a veteran, and both will complete a two-week intensive training program at America's VetDogs campus in New York. The pair will graduate in December and begin their joint life as a new independent team.

Raising $50,000 to cover the costs of training and placing a service dog for veterans is an incredible milestone. We are extremely grateful to CACI and the Washington Capitals for making this possible," said John Miller, President and CEO of America. "Through the 'Good Dogs for Great Americans' partnership, every blocked shot by the Capitals is helping to bring about change. This is a powerful example of how teamwork and generosity can have a lasting, life-changing impact on those who have served our country."

Thanks to the Capital Team's continuous efforts in blocking shots, it took less than a month to raise the necessary $50,000 to support a team of service dogs for veterans. The Capital Team's shot-blocking efforts this season will continue to generate funds, helping to bring more service dogs to the veterans who need them most.

America's VetDogs is a national non-profit organization that provides specially trained service dogs to veterans, first responders, and active-duty military personnel. The cost of breeding, training, and placing a service dog exceeds $50,000, but individuals do not have to pay any fees.
