New York, November 3rd / PRNewswire / -- Bold Security Today, the company announced that it has been selected for the 2027 Fortune Cyber 60 list. This list annually recognizes the most important venture-capital-backed cybersecurity startups that have not yet undergone IPO, acquisitions, or other major exits. Bold made it onto the list in the early-stage category from the very beginning.
Over the past decade, data loss protection ( DLP ) has had a poor reputation due to excessive noise and the false sense of security it provides. Traditional DLP methods rely on pattern matching, which allows them to identify personal identification information ( PII ) and payment card industry data ( PCI ), but they tend to miss source code, financial models, and board of directors documents. Even the patterns that are matched often trigger alarms during normal operations, overwhelming teams with so many alerts that they end up disabling the protection function. As a result, these protection tools have become more of detection tools than actual protective measures.
Today, AI is bringing work back to the device side, entering into locally running desktop assistants and AI proxies, which are not within the traditional monitoring scope of DLP. Bold has re-established endpoints DLP around the devices that are running AI. The small language models on each device classify data based on meaning rather than patterns, read the context surrounding each operation, and can instantly block or provide alerts when events occur. There is no need for any round-trip communication with the cloud during this process, no regular expressions that need to be written, and there will be no gaps in coverage when the devices go offline.
Bold Security, Co-Founder and CEO, stated: "For many years, the industry has viewed endpoints as outdated boundaries and DLP as a necessary evil. However, AI has shattered these assumptions. Humans and AI agents transfer sensitive data through devices faster than security teams, while DLP is both overburdened and underperforming. For us, endpoints represent both a new area of risk and the right place to solve these issues. Being selected for Fortune Cyber 60 is proof of this problem and our approach."
Bold was established in 2024 and ended its stealth mode at the beginning of 2025, raising $40 million in funding. Its investors include Bessemer Venture Partners, Picture Capital, and Red Dot Capital Partners. The company also serves dozens of rapidly growing clients, including Tekion, HiBob, Cresta, and Shutterfly. The founder of Bold previously founded two cybersecurity companies, Polyrize and SAM Seamless Network, which were later acquired by Varonis and Qualcomm respectively.
Bessemer Venture Partners Partner Amit Karp says: "Every security team is aware that DLP is a problem, but few companies are willing to rethink the way they work. Bold has created a truly different product that utilizes AI at the endpoints to understand sensitive data and prevent leaks without interfering with employees. That's why we invested in this team."
The Fortune Cyber 60™ list is jointly launched by Lightspeed Venture Partners and AWS, with the aim of recognizing 60 of the most important venture-capital-backed cybersecurity startups that have not yet experienced IPO, acquisitions, or other major exits. Lightspeed will evaluate hundreds of venture-capital-backed cybersecurity companies based on annual recurring revenue, year-over-year growth, and verified operational data, and then divide the list into three phases, with 20 companies in each phase. The complete list can be viewed here.
