According to CoinMeta, Unicoin has filed a lawsuit against Uniswap Labs in the New York Federal Court, seeking a court ruling that its Unicoin brand does not infringe upon Uniswap's trademark, and requesting the cancellation of Uniswap's registration for the UNI trademark. In a complaint dated September 8th, Unicoin stated that Uniswap had accused it of trademark infringement, dilution, domain name squatting, and unfair competition over several months. The lawsuit asks the court to rule that Unicoin may continue to use its name and unicorn logo without infringing upon the trademarks of Uniswap, UNI, or Unichain. Unicoin also challenged the U.S. trademark registration number 7307721, arguing that the term is generic or at most descriptive, and lacks the distinctiveness required for trademark registration. Unicoin hopes that the court will cancel the registration of Uniswap's UNI, on the grounds that UNI is a generic term or merely descriptive vocabulary, and thus does not qualify as a distinctive identifier.
