According to CoinMeta, as reported by Coinpost, the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee plans to review two cryptocurrency tax bills on September 16. The "Mining and Staking Tax Clarification Act" proposed by Representative Mike Carey would allow miners and stakers to defer the taxation of newly generated tokens until the time of sale or other disposition. Although such income would still be taxed as regular income, Republican members are reportedly considering removing this deferral clause. Another proposal aims to limit the deferral period to five years. The "Applying Current Anti-abuse Rules of Tax Law to Digital Assets Act" proposed by Representative Jodey Arrington seeks to extend the wash-sale rules and deemed sales avoidance rules applicable to stocks to digital assets, but digital assets obtained through mining, staking, and other transaction verification activities, as well as dollar-pegged stablecoins that meet regulatory requirements, would not be covered by these rules. If both bills are approved by the committee, they will be submitted to the full House of Representatives for further consideration.
