Zcash plans to upgrade in November, tripling the speed of private payments
2026-09-18 20:57:32
CoinMeta data: Developers of Zcash plan to conduct an upgrade on November 5th, with the goal of reducing the time between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. This Nu7 upgrade will also start retaining a portion of network transaction fees for use in future mining rewards. This schedule was agreed upon after discussions among core development teams such as the Zcash Foundation, Project Tachyon, Valar, Zodl, and Shielded Labs. Approximately 2.4 million ZEC participants voted, with 66% of eligible voters supporting this upgrade. 98.9% of voters favored maintaining Zcash's current halving plan, and 96.6% chose February 2031 as the starting date for returning the collected fees to miners. The developers envision that funds can be transferred directly from personal wallets to merchants or other individuals without going through banks or credit card networks.
