According to CoinMeta, AI company Cactus Compute has released Needle 3, which is specifically designed for tool invocation and structured data extraction, and is not intended for general chat purposes. Users can issue simple commands, such as "set the living room light to 30%," and the system will automatically locate the corresponding function and fill in the parameters. Similar to the recently popular Jev, Needle 3 uses a method of generating layers one by one, with the output limited to tool calls that can be directly executed by programs. This model can be tailored to have 2 to 20 layers; the 2-layer version is about 9MB, while the full 20-layer version is around 35MB, adapting to different device computing powers. A finely tuned 4-layer version with 29 million parameters scored 62.5 on self-tests, surpassing the 60.5 score of DeepSeek v4 Flash.
