Citi: No U.S. Treasury auctions this week, market may get a chance to catch its breath
2026-09-28 13:46:08
According to CoinMeta, Citibank strategist Jason Williams stated in a report that the U.S. Treasury market may get a breather this week, but there is no clear catalyst that would drive a significant rise in U.S. Treasuries unless oil prices fall significantly. He pointed out that the re-pricing of short-term U.S. Treasuries over the past month has reached a historical high since the 1990s, so current valuations may be temporarily on the high side. In addition, Williams also mentioned that the supply of U.S. Treasuries could be one of the reasons for the sell-off of bonds last week, as there were no U.S. Treasury auctions this week. He noted, "Since 2026, in weeks with Treasury auctions, U.S. Treasuries have often experienced more substantial sell-offs than in weeks without new bond issuances."
