According to CoinMeta, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill that prohibits public officials from issuing meme coin in the state and imposes new restrictions on political figures' involvement in the crypto market. The bill prohibits California public officials and employees from issuing meme coin, and restricts digital asset service providers from listing certain meme coin issued by public officials after January 1, 2027. The bill also grants the California Attorney General, district prosecutors, and city and county prosecutors the power to file civil lawsuits to enforce these restrictions, hold violators accountable, and recover funds for victims.
