The co-authors of this research paper include scientists from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and companies such as Microsoft. Researchers believe that as AI systems gradually gain the ability to conduct experiments, write code, and advance scientific research on their own, their autonomy and potential risks also increase accordingly. Some researchers further warn that if there is a lack of sufficient constraints on highly autonomous AI research, these technologies could pose a threat to human survival under extreme circumstances.
