She pointed out that AI laboratories, with their vast computing resources and data, are attracting an increasing number of professors. Thol mentioned that Stanford allows tenured professors to take a two-year unpaid leave to join the private sector every seven years, and professors usually return to the school after completing their work. She also noted that the costs associated with AI research at Stanford are rising, and future expenditures are "very difficult to predict."
