Bitget: Hackers steal $388 million by exploiting vulnerabilities in third-party products
2026-09-29 05:08:11
According to CoinMeta, Bitget, the CEO of the exchange, Gracy Chen, stated that hackers who stole $388 million last week took advantage of vulnerabilities in third-party products to steal internal credentials and send fraudulent withdrawal instructions that bypassed the exchange's risk control measures. Chen also noted that this hacking incident did not affect any private keys or cold wallets, and that the situation has been brought under control. The affected systems have been isolated, the vulnerabilities have been fixed, and the relevant servers have been isolated to prevent further damage and to preserve evidence for investigation. The internal credentials have been revoked and reissued, and the access rights to highly sensitive systems have been restructured. Bitget also mentioned that 100% of user funds are covered by a proprietary Bitcoin insurance fund of 5,500 bitcoins. Following the incident, Bitget suspended withdrawals and began to gradually resume them on Monday, starting with BTC, followed by ETH and USDT, and finally other token and fiat currency transactions.
