The prosecution alleges that victims received fraudulent text messages impersonating Coinbase during email communications with Coinbase and were induced to provide account login information, passwords, and other details. Subsequently, the account funds were transferred without the victims' authorization. The prosecution indicates that the assets in question are suspected of being proceeds from telecommunications fraud, and whether they will ultimately be confiscated still requires going through the civil forfeiture process. The allegations in the complaint have not yet been recognized by the court.
