According to CoinMeta, on September 28, 2026, SpaceX successfully launched Starship into orbit and released 26 Starlink v3 satellites. However, due to an engine failure, the mission had to be shortened. This flight proved that Starship is capable of launching the largest satellites, but it did not demonstrate that the company can maintain a sufficient launch frequency. During the launch, one super-heavy engine shut down, followed by the premature cessation of the upper vacuum rocket engines as well. Nevertheless, Starship extended the flight time by utilizing the remaining engines and ultimately completed the low Earth orbit mission, reaching an altitude of about 275 kilometers. The original plan was to complete approximately six orbits in nearly 10 hours, but due to engine issues, the mission was terminated after about three hours. According to SpaceX, the Starlink v3 satellites are designed to support 1 Tbps downstream and 160 Gbps upstream capabilities. The additional 26 Tbps satellites almost double the network capacity of the 9 v2 mini satellites launched previously.
