OpenAI President Greg Brockman is also expected to be present. This meeting comes at a time when AI security risks have drawn attention, and industry experts such as Amodei have called for a slowdown in the development of advanced AI technologies to address potential risks. Johnson stated that Congress "may" need to establish a regulatory framework for AI, but relevant legislation will require time to build broad consensus, and it is unlikely that the U.S. Congress will pass any AI related legislation in the short term. House members are currently in recess and are expected to return after the mid-term elections in November; the Senate also plans to go on recess before the elections later this week.
