John Waldren: Goldman Sachs' Future CEO and Its Bitcoin Remarks in 2021
2026-09-29 13:21:41
According to CoinMeta, John Waldron is considered to be Goldman Sachs' next CEO. In 2021, he stated that customer demand for Bitcoin (BTC) was on the rise. This statement reflects his views on cryptocurrencies. The Wall Street Journal reported that Goldman Sachs' board of directors discussed the transition from David Solomon, and Waldron could take over by the end of 2027 or in 2028, although the bank stated that there is no firm timeline. Waldron joined Goldman Sachs in 2000, became co-head of investment banking in 2014, and has served as president and chief operating officer (COO) since October 2018. In 2025, he was re-elected to the board of directors and received a retention bonus. Analyst Mike Mayo linked his expected promotion to this bonus. Waldron said in 2021 that more and more customers wanted to own and invest in Bitcoin, and added that Goldman Sachs was seeking compliant ways to meet their needs. The bank has resumed its crypto trading desk and began trading Bitcoin futures for customers, while also considering Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETF). Five years later, Goldman Sachs' digital assets business has expanded to include tokenization.
