According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Yonhap News, on October 30, the Financial Intelligence Analysis Institute (FIA), which is under the jurisdiction of the Financial Services Commission of South Korea, stated that it had requested the Broadcasting Media Communications Review Committee to block access to the websites and applications of two unregistered virtual asset service providers, tethermax and supertrust, within South Korean territory. On the same day, the South Korean Digital Asset Exchange Joint Consultative Body (KDAEC) referred three companies, aegis, ventures, tethermax, and supertrust, to investigation on suspicion of operating virtual asset businesses without registration. FIU noted that a joint investigation in June this year found that the average transaction fees charged by these unregistered service providers ranged from 1.5% to 10%, which is approximately 62 times higher than the average fee rate of 0.16% of South Korea's five major won-based exchanges. To date, a total of 47 unregistered virtual asset service providers in South Korea have been referred for investigation.
