Meta's business terms under investigation by UK antitrust authorities, involving disputes over the use of AI content

According to CoinMeta, Meta Platforms ( META.O ) is facing investigation by UK regulatory authorities. The regulators are concerned that the company's terms of business may impose "exploitative" conditions on publishers and advertisers. The UK Competition and Markets Authority ( CMA ) stated that it will investigate whether Meta is using its terms of business to abuse its dominant market position, thereby "unfairly harming" the interests of businesses using its platform. CMA claimed that Meta originally planned to revise the relevant terms starting from November 20th, but the implementation has now been postponed. Under these terms, Meta might be able to collect content from websites without obtaining the publishers' consent and use that content to develop products, including those with artificial intelligence features. Meta responded to this investigation by saying, "There is no reason to initiate a competition investigation. We have committed not to modify the relevant terms until we have consulted with publishers and other stakeholders."
