Black October: Hackers Use AI Technology to Intensify Security Threats in the Crypto Industry
2026-10-31 23:38:15
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Coin Bureau, we are currently in a golden age for hackers, as attackers utilize AI technologies to turn overlooked vulnerabilities into exploitable weaknesses. Binance's loss of $6.3 billion is the largest crypto theft incident in history. Chainalysis has also disclosed security vulnerabilities it has encountered. The losses in October include: a supply chain attack on Ledger distributors costing approximately $93 million, CoinDCX costing $16 million, Bloom trading robots costing about $953,000, and there is a possibility that Railway customer secrets have been leaked. Blockworks reports that there have been over 300 crypto attacks this year, representing a 111% increase from last year. What distinguishes this wave of attacks, dubbed "Black October," is that AI enables the discovery of weaknesses in widely used software. Railway indicates that preliminary evidence suggests that the attackers used models that removed security protections and a large amount of computing resources. The role of AI in identifying and exploiting these weaknesses is becoming increasingly significant.
