MetaMask indicates that they are dealing with a security incident that affects part of their infrastructure, and as a preventive measure, they are shutting down the affected staking validators.
In an update on Wednesday, MetaMask stated that the company is working internally to address this ongoing threat and is collaborating with external partners and security consultants. MetaMask did not disclose specific security issues, but indicated that no direct threats have been found to the MetaMask wallet yet.
According to MetaMask, these preventive measures involve verifiers in their non-hosted staking business.
Cointelegraph has contacted MetaMask, but as of the time of publication, no immediate response has been received.
Lido Disclosure of Validator Exit and Potential Fines
As separately stated, MetaMask Staking began to withdraw its Ethereum validator from the Lido protocol on Wednesday.
According to Lido, the last batch of affected validators is expected to exit on October 7th, which may result in reward losses and downtime penalties during that period.
ETH, which exited from the verifier operated by MetaMask Staking, is expected to gradually return to the protocol after the relevant verifier completes its exit, coin withdrawal, and re-entry process. Due to a long queue of entries, this process is anticipated to take up to about 45 days, stated by Will Shannon, the developer of Lido Finance.
This is a report that is still in progress; more information will be added once it becomes available.
