Napster Co-founder Sean Parker has returned to the music industry, and he said... The InformationThis time, he will follow the rules. (He also frankly admitted that his previous approach of ‘acting first and then asking for forgiveness’ wasn’t very effective.)

Two years ago, Parker participated in a $80 million bailout for Stability AI. This image generation startup had been on the verge of collapse due to excessive spending and internal turmoil, which ultimately led to founder Emad Mostaque being forced to resign. Today, Parker and his long-time friend, who is now CEO Prem Akkaraju, are making public the plans they have been working on.

Parker said that the overall goal is to build Stability into the preferred AI tool manufacturer for music professionals. To this end, the company announced at the end of August that it had received $76 million in financing, with investors including Sony, Warner, and Universal, among others; as part of the deal, these companies also authorized their respective music libraries for training purposes. Since then, Stability has released three new audio models and AI music editing software.

This AI can generate complete instrumental tracks based on textual prompts, or produce shorter fragments. Parker mentions that future updates will also allow users to hum melodies or use vocal techniques to create drum rhythms, thereby guiding the model.
