It is reported that Su Zifeng, Chairman and CEO of AMD, stated on Tuesday that as the company strives to meet the demand for artificial intelligence hardware, AMD plans to further increase chip supply in 2027.
Su Zifeng stated, "As we move forward into 2026, we are already capable of increasing the supply volume. In 2027, we will significantly boost the supply, but we will definitely still need more."
She told reporters that she had already held meetings with Acer, ASUS, Foxconn, and Quanta, and planned to travel to Hsinchu later in the day to meet with TSMC and other suppliers. Su Zifeng stated that one of the core objectives of this visit was to ensure that supply chain partners could increase the production capacity of CPU, GPU, and other AI computing products.
Su Zifeng also stated that AMD is increasing its investment in the supply chain, with the scale expected to exceed the $1 billion investment commitment announced by the company in May this year, due to the continuous growth in demand for computing hardware. She did not disclose the amount of the new investment.
Su Zifeng stated that the surge in demand has prompted AMD and its partners to extend the planning period. Instead of looking ahead one to two years as in the past, they are now planning for the next three to five years, in order to coordinate the expansion of supply chain capacity.
She said, "The demand will be very high in the coming years." She also stated that AMD will need more advanced wafer production capacity to meet the demand.
When asked by reporters whether AMD and TSMC had discussed the possibility of investing in Texas, Su Zifeng did not answer directly. She stated that TSMC's factory in Arizona has been performing very well for AMD. It is reported that TSMC is currently evaluating an investment that could be made in Texas.
Su Zifeng stated that the supply of storage chips in the entire market remains tight. She mentioned that AMD is coordinating with suppliers and customers regarding storage requirements, which cover high-bandwidth storage chips used in AI servers, as well as traditional storage chips used in CPU and personal computers.
Later that day, Su Zifeng also planned to travel to South Korea to hold talks with storage chip manufacturers. South Korea is the headquarters of two major storage chip manufacturers: Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
Su Zifeng also confirmed that the Helios AI platform began shipping as planned in the third quarter, and shipments are expected to continue to grow in the coming quarters.
AMD In the second quarter, data center business revenue reached $6.7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 107%, mainly driven by the growth in sales of EPYC processors and Instinct GPU.
As the AI craze drives up stock prices, AMD's market value has recently surpassed one trillion dollars.
