Progressive ranks first in the overall ranking of the semi-annual mobile insurance rating card.
Wilmington, Delaware, October 7, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Keynova Group, a leading provider of competitive intelligence for digital financial services companies, today announced the results of its Q3 2026 Semi-Annual "Mobile Insurance Scorecard".
This competitive report conducted a benchmark evaluation of the mobile applications and websites of the 12 largest automobile and property insurance companies in the United States, and rated Progressive as a leader in overall mobile user experience, as well as first place in the mobile web category. Allstate ranked first in the mobile application category.
Keynova Group Managing Director Beth Robertson stated: "The strongest mobile insurance experience is increasingly combining value, convenience, and security. Insurance companies that can help policyholders identify savings opportunities, easily expand or adjust coverage and services, and provide secure access to accounts on mobile devices can enhance customer loyalty, while also creating new opportunities to expand existing customer relationships."
Main findings:
Insurers demonstrate value to policyholders through personalized savings opportunities.
As insurance costs continue to rise, some insurance companies are increasing the value of their partnerships by offering personalized discounts or coverage options to help current policyholders save money. Although insurance companies typically display discounts to potential customers during the new policy quotation process, one-third of them have already introduced additional information and tools to assist current policyholders in identifying and applying for relevant new discounts, policy options, or deductible adjustments. Guided, customized savings assessments take into account the policyholder's current deductible level, coverage content, and discount situation to provide targeted recommendations.
Simplifying the cross-selling process helps to expand the scope of coverage.
In order to promote cross-selling and help policyholders obtain the coverage they need, insurance companies can simplify the quotation and application process by highlighting relevant links that enable users to easily search for and seamlessly apply for coverage updates, additional policies, or value-added services such as telematics and accident detection. Although most insurance companies allow policy updates through mobile channels, three-quarters of them support mobile-based quotations for proposed or hypothetical policy updates. Progressive is among the 40% of insurance companies that permit policyholders to access saved policy change quotations directly from a verified mobile login page. Companies can also make it easier for existing policyholders to obtain quotes for new policies, allowing them to consider additional options such as umbrella insurance or high-value personal property coverage. The report states that telematics solutions should also be prominently displayed through mobile channels: currently, 42% of insurance companies' main service apps have integrated telematics capabilities with accident detection, but only a quarter of these companies can complete the entire telematics registration process within the app.
Add account access security options to protect policyholders
As identity theft and fraud continue to surge, insurance companies are expanding their digital security measures to protect sensitive policyholder data, including providing more methods of authentication. All companies covered by the rating card adopt biometric login in their applications and use multi-factor authentication in mobile channels (MFA) to provide additional verification in addition to traditional usernames and passwords. Erie is the only company that offers an external authenticator app in this process, rather than sending verification codes via text message or email. Passkey is also becoming a safer alternative to traditional credentials, with nearly 20% of insurance companies currently supporting device-based Passkey login. Enterprises can also prevent unauthorized access and protect personal data by prominently displaying and confirming that logout has been completed. Two-thirds of insurance companies confirm that logout has been completed on mobile web pages, while less than 20% of companies provide a prompt for completing logout on mobile applications.
