The establishment of three working groups on physical AI, security, and interoperability marks a new phase for edge AI. It emphasizes that in addition to key partnerships, attention should also be paid to security and community collaboration.
San Jose, California, USA, October 7th / PRNewswire / -- EDGE AI FOUNDATION Today, it was announced that three new working groups will be established, and a new strategic partnership will be formed with LF Edge. The foundation stated that, as the world's largest community of edge AI developers, technology manufacturers, and academia, these initiatives mark a new phase for edge AI: artificial intelligence is moving from laboratories to real-world scenarios, and the stringent security, safety measures, and community collaboration required for commercial success will also advance in tandem.
To accelerate the adoption and implementation of edge computing, the foundation has established the following foundational working groups:
Physical AI / Robot Working Group Led by nductors, with the token issuance by NXP ® Sem, the members include AWS, Arduino, Analog Devices, DeepX and representatives from Johns Hopkins University.
- Importance:Bridging the gap between intelligent algorithms and mechanical actions is crucial for automating physical tasks and addressing the global labor shortage. This working group will define the framework required for autonomous systems to operate safely and efficiently in environments with human presence.
- "To make credible physical AI a reality, close collaboration from the entire ecosystem is required," said Jerome Legros, Vice President of Robotics Business and General Manager of NXP. "This working group brings together leaders from industry and academia to jointly build the necessary framework so that robots and autonomous systems can operate intelligently, safely, and efficiently in our daily environment."
Security Working Group Led by Exein and Dell.
- Importance:As intelligence migrates to the edge, it has become crucial for endpoints to respond to emerging threats and protect decentralized devices. This working group will focus on establishing best practices and robust architectures to safeguard edge AI models, data pipelines, and the privacy of end-users.
- "In edge deployments, security can no longer be a post-event consideration or an add-on solution," said Channa Samynathan, Vice President of Integration and Partner Strategy at Exein. "Our goal is to establish a unified, proactive security posture that protects edge infrastructure from the silicon layer all the way to the application layer—implementing security by design."
Interoperability and Standards Working Group Led by STMicroelectronics and NXP.
- Importance:Interoperability is the key to scalability. This working group is committed to establishing common protocols, benchmarks, and standards to ensure seamless integration and communication between the highly diverse ecosystem of edge hardware and software.
Strategic cooperation with LF Edge
With the establishment of the new working group, EDGE AI FOUNDATION also established a strategic partnership with LF Edge. LF Edge is an open-source umbrella organization under Linux Foundation, dedicated to building a vendor-neutral and interoperable framework for distributed edge computing that covers hardware, chips, cloud, and operating system environments. This collaboration will align LF Edge's open-source reference projects with the efforts of this foundation's working groups.
By integrating these efforts, the collaboration between both parties will enable the faster introduction of repeatable and verified edge AI cases into the industry. Developers and enterprises will benefit from reference architectures that are natively incorporated with the appropriate security, safety, and standards-based approaches advocated by the new working group.
EDGE AI FOUNDATION CEO Pete Bernard stated: "Collaborating with LF Edge, along with these new key working groups, enables us to transform best practice plans into deployable code faster than ever before. We are jointly providing developers and business customers with repeatable, reliable, and best practice-compliant reference architectures to help them confidently scale edge AI in the real world."
Linux Foundation, General Manager of Networks, Edge, and Internet of Things, Arpit Joshipura stated: "This collaboration brings together the best of both worlds – LF Edge, a powerful open-source edge framework for distributed edge infrastructure, and EDGE AI FOUNDATION, its extensive global community. By aligning our project with their workgroups, we are accelerating the delivery of secure, scalable, and interoperable edge AI solutions to the global ecosystem."
Welcome to EDGE AI Taipei 2026
Industry leaders, developers, and partners are invited to learn more about these new working groups and reference architectures at the upcoming EDGE AI Taipei 2026 event. The event will take place from October 22nd to 23rd, 2026, and will include in-depth topics, hands-on workshops, as well as opportunities for discussion surrounding the future of physical AI, edge security, and small language models deployment.
