Tether led a round of pre-seed financing for Bolivian fintech company Peso, aimed at supporting the company's expansion in Latin America.

In a statement on Wednesday, Tether stated that this investment will help Peso expand its stablecoin payment infrastructure in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina, including services that connect USDT with local currencies through banking and merchant payment systems.

Peso has integrated the payment of USDT into Yango's takeaway service in Bolivia, allowing customers to use this stablecoin to pay for their orders. This fintech company also offers QR code payments, point-of-sale services for merchants, as well as virtual accounts connected to the Bolivian banking system through ACH transfers. Tether has not disclosed the amount of investment.

At the time of this investment, other fintech companies were also expanding financial services based on USDT in Bolivia. On Tuesday, the lending platform Tala announced a partnership with El Dorado to provide credit directly through digital wallets, allowing eligible customers to receive and repay loans on the Tempo blockchain in USDT.

Against the backdrop of a dollar shortage, Bolivia turns to stablecoins

Since 2025, affected by a long-term dollar shortage and high inflation, Bolivia has increasingly turned to stablecoins; as it has become more difficult to obtain foreign currencies, businesses have begun to accept USDT as a means of payment.

In November 2025, the government announced plans to incorporate cryptocurrencies and stablecoins into the financial system, including allowing banks to provide digital asset custody and financial products linked to cryptocurrencies.

Subsequently, in July 2026, the government began to consider a regulatory framework that aims to include USDT along with the Boliviano and the US Dollar within the scope of acceptance for payments, savings, and trade.

According to a report from Cointelegraph in July, at the time this proposal was introduced, Bolivia, after abandoning its long-standing exchange rate peg system in June, continued to face a shortage of US dollars, which drove the demand for US-dollar denominated alternatives such as USDT.

Canadian P2P crypto activity declines from a peak of 650,000 transactions, accompanied by a decrease in the number of student permits
A North American study released on October 14 by Chainalysis indicates that Canada's monthly peer-to-peer cryptocurrency transaction activity has declined from a peak of nearly 650,000 in the spring of 2024, in line with a decrease in the number of international student permits in the country. The study emphasizes that this is only a correlation at the group level and does not prove that international students are responsible for the decline in transactions. The article also mentions the costs of stablecoin remittances, restrictions on fiat currency payouts, as well as the progress of the Philippines' BPI in testing stablecoin settlements for overseas income.
