A headline claiming that 1.8 billion XRP were transferred through XRP Ledger within 24 hours has once again sparked discussions about the network's potential resurgence. However, this figure has not been independently verified for a specific 24-hour period, and therefore should be regarded as a statement in a report rather than evidence of a confirmed new trend.
XRP Ledger can handle payments, decentralized exchanges, and transactions of tokenized assets. The volume of payments can reflect network activity, but this figure needs to be considered in context. Large transfers may simply be the allocation of funds managed by the exchange, internal financial operations, or transfers between wallets controlled by the same entity.
These situations do not necessarily indicate the emergence of new investor demand, nor do they represent new funds flowing into the market.
Recent verified reports have illustrated why this distinction is important. A data snapshot from October showed that the daily payment volume soared to approximately 137.7 million XRP, but it was still below the 30-day average of about 496 million XRP.
In October, another set of readings was around 363.3 million XRP. Similarly, caution is needed: a single-day increase does not prove that a recovery has already taken hold.
Readings close to 1.8 billion XRP usually occur towards the end of the week, as most online activity happens during that time period. The most common pattern is as follows: there is higher activity on Thursdays and Fridays, a decline over the weekend, and then a recovery starting on Monday.

Other indicators can also help distinguish between genuine adoption and temporary spikes, including the number of active addresses, the number of successful payments, transactions on decentralized exchanges, liquidity, and the distribution of transaction volumes. Even a high number of transactions can be misleading, especially when automated activities are dominant; a recent investigation into small-value stablecoin payments on XRPL illustrates this point.
If the natural growth of XRP liquidity is verified, it could indicate a renewed level of market participation in this network. An even more convincing sign would be several consecutive days of stronger activity with a wider distribution, accompanied by improved liquidity and sustained growth in user demand, which is not a common occurrence.
