Ethereum developers stated that they will not proceed with the Glamsterdam fork on the Hoodi test network until the risks related to smart contracts have been resolved.

Ethereum core developers have postponed the implementation of the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, as security concerns related to eight smart contract invariants have not yet been resolved.

In a blog post on Friday, the Ethereum Foundation stated that some existing Ethereum projects rely on the assumption that certain operations will incur specific gas costs. However, the EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 updates to Glamsterdam will change the gas billing model for certain operations, so these assumptions will no longer hold true.

This decision was made after the smart contract auditing firm ChainSecurity released a report on October 13th. The report found that these two Ethereum improvement proposals (EIP) could potentially disrupt smart contracts that rely on fixed assumptions related to gas in the event of external calls failing.

Postponing the Hoodi testnet fork will give developers more time to identify potential smart contract issues and determine whether adjustments are needed before moving forward with the mainnet deployment on Glamsterdam. An article from the Ethereum Foundation also states that the Hoodi fork will not proceed until these issues are resolved.

Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade was launched on the Sepolia test network on October 6th, which is one of its last major rehearsals. In a blog post on September 28th, the Ethereum Foundation announced that this upgrade aims to advance Ethereum's Layer 1 roadmap for scalability, including the separation of proposers from builders, block-level access lists, and adjustments to gas pricing to better reflect execution costs.
