A mysterious cryptocurrency transaction of $163,000 has sparked speculation: the controversial figure known as “Bitcoin Jesus”, Roger Ver, may be buying Bitcoin cash (BCH) again.
According to the online analysis platform Onchain Lens, recently 73.31 Ether (ETH) were exchanged for approximately 655.74 BCH with the help of the decentralized cross-chain protocol THORChain, worth about $163,000.
Ver has always been a staunch supporter of BCH in the past, claiming that it has advantages over the original Bitcoin network.
However, Onchain Lens did not provide conclusive evidence to prove that the wallet in question belonged to Ver.
Roger Ver's long-term dedication to Bitcoin Cash
Ver is one of the pioneers of cryptocurrencies, entering this field in 2011 and quickly becoming one of the most well-known early advocates of Bitcoin.
He is extremely enthusiastic about this digital asset, and for this reason, he earned the nickname “Bitcoin Jesus” for his vigorous promotion of cryptocurrencies.
However, as the controversy surrounding Bitcoin's scalability issues intensified – which ultimately led to the emergence of Bitcoin Cash in August 2017 – Ver's relationship with the mainstream Bitcoin community was impacted.
Subsequently, Ver quickly became one of the most active supporters of Bitcoin Cash.
He has always argued that a larger block size and lower transaction fees for BCH help Bitcoin return to its original purpose as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system.
$50 million settlement ends legal controversy
Over the past year, Roger Ver has made more news due to his public legal disputes with the U.S. government.
As early as April 2024, this crypto entrepreneur was arrested in Spain, where US authorities accused him of not paying approximately $48 million in taxes on his large holdings and transactions of Bitcoin.
Ver renounced his U.S. citizenship in 2014. He firmly believes that this lawsuit is unjust and has continuously attempted to question the government's claims.
In June 2025, Ver further escalated his opposition. He filed a lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights, challenging Spain's decision to extradite him to the United States.
However, a major turning point in this dispute occurred in October 2025. Ver reached a settlement with the US Department of Justice through a deferred prosecution agreement.
This cryptocurrency figure agreed to pay nearly $50 million in unpaid taxes, fines, and interest.
