Bitget Protection Fund Fully Bears the Losses from Theft Incidents
2026-09-25 11:30:06
According to CoinMeta, Bitget announced that its protection fund will fully cover the losses from this theft incident. The protection fund was established in 2022 with an initial size of $300 million and was expanded to $550 million in 2023. The funds come from the platform's own reserves, not from user assets. The purpose of this fund is to provide compensation for users, especially in cases of hacker attacks, coin thefts, and other incidents that are not due to the users' own fault. There are few exchanges that have established such protection funds and made their on-chain addresses public; besides Binance's SAFU, it seems that only Bitget does as well. This theft incident did not cause significant panic, partly because the profits were transparent, the compensation funds were sufficient, and the team disclosed the issue promptly and responded effectively.
