Bitwise Report: Institutions Did Not Reduce Their Bitcoin Holdings During the Crypto Market Crash
2026-09-25 11:48:31
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Bitwise, interviews with 15 institutions revealed that during the period from October 2025 to April 2026 when crypto prices halved, the largest institutional investors did not reduce their holdings of Bitcoin. Many institutions chose to buy at lower prices, and none of the surveyed institutions reduced their allocation to cryptocurrencies. All institutions holding crypto assets also held Bitcoin, which was the first asset they purchased, the largest portion of their holdings, and the asset they held for the longest time. Institutions stated that they would only exit their positions in cases of a fundamental breakdown in the market logic; mere market fluctuations would not shake their decisions. Bitwise predicts that most institutions will continue to hold crypto assets over the next five years.
