According to CoinMeta, Tether stated that the assets held by its licensed offshore bank in Dominica, Eqibank, account for less than 0.034% of the group's total assets. Based on the group's total assets of $187.75 billion disclosed by Tether in June, the maximum exposure to Eqibank is approximately $64 million, although Tether did not disclose a specific amount. Eqibank previously held and transferred customer funds through the American payment processor Capstone, with the related funds being deposited in accounts Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase. The U.S. prosecution has seized the funds from these accounts Capstone and filed a civil forfeiture lawsuit, accusing them of making false statements about the nature of their business to the bank. Eqibank claimed that about $89 million in funds were seized, which is equivalent to approximately 80% of their monetary assets, and may lead to their entry into liquidation proceedings. Eqibank once served Tether, including handling the purchase and redemption of related wire transfers USDT. Tether stated that they were unaware of the allegations made by the U.S. Department of Justice against Capstone.
