Cryptocurrency tax forms raise doubts about accuracy among one-fifth of American investors
2026-09-25 23:32:26
According to CoinMeta, a survey indicates that about one-fifth of American crypto investors who have submitted or plan to submit tax extensions are concerned about the accuracy of their incomplete 1099-FORMs due to missing information. The survey also found that another 21% of respondents are still waiting for information from exchanges or crypto platforms. The 1099-FORM for 2025 requires brokers to report the total income from certain digital asset transactions, but most forms do not display the original purchase prices of the assets for customers. Taxpayers need these two figures to calculate their gains or losses. Tax experts point out that missing records can affect subsequent calculations, especially when assets are transferred between multiple platforms or held in wallets for an extended period of time.
