According to CoinMeta, the U.S. Department of Justice froze the account of a payment company in Montana, Capstone, in a civil forfeiture complaint, involving an amount of $84 million. The prosecution accused the company of illegally transferring funds and making payments on behalf of hundreds of entities and individuals. Capstone once handled fund settlements on behalf of Bitfinex and processed funds under the instructions of Eqibank. Tether held some assets in that bank, and Tether confirmed it as a customer of Eqibank, but stated that it was unaware of any illegal activities.
