According to CoinMeta, as reported by Coinpedia, between 2025 and 2026, crypto hacker attacks and vulnerabilities resulted in losses of over $11.4 billion. Binance suffered an attack worth $6.36 billion, with attackers transferring most of the funds across 10 blockchains within about 20 minutes. In addition, hackers also damaged the cooling systems of supermarkets in seven European countries. According to data from DefiLlama, the crypto industry recorded losses of approximately $2.7 billion in 2025, and by November 3, 2026, the reported losses had exceeded $8.776 billion, involving 328 incidents. The Bybit hacker incident in February was one of the largest of the year, stealing around $1.5 billion in assets. The losses in 2026 were even more severe, mainly due to the Binance attack on October 29th, which caused $6.36 billion in damages. Investigators traced the stolen funds to being transferred through about 12,000 wallets in less than four days. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) linked this attack to a North Korean hacker group known as TraderTraitor, which stole over $6 billion in virtual assets and converted most of that money into Ethereum.
