According to CoinMeta, after Binance suffered a $6.3 billion hacker attack on October 29th, the Financial Services Commission of South Korea (FSC) required domestic cryptocurrency exchanges to increase their cold wallet assets and strengthen their financial reserves. As reported by the Chosun Ilbo on November 2nd, regulatory authorities held an emergency meeting to review the security arrangements of major virtual asset service providers and assess whether the incident affected South Korea's cryptocurrency market. The meeting was chaired by Yu Yong-jun, the director of digital finance policy at FSC, and participants included representatives from the Financial Supervision Service, the Financial Security Research Institute, and the Digital Asset Exchange Alliance (DAXA). The meeting called for exchanges to strengthen security procedures, maintain additional reserves, and be prepared for suspicious transactions or unauthorized access attempts. According to South Korea's Virtual Asset User Protection Act, crypto service providers must keep at least 80% of their customers' deposit digital assets in cold wallets. FSC required exchanges to increase the proportion of cold storage, although no new unified minimum standards were announced at the meeting.
