According to CoinMeta, OpenAI announced that Uber President Jill Hazelbaker will join at the beginning of December to take on the role of newly appointed Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, responsible for global public relations, brand reputation, and external communications, reporting directly to OpenAI President Greg Brockman. OpenAI's previous Chief Communications Officer, Hannah Wong, resigned in January this year, leaving the position vacant for nearly 10 months. OpenAI made an offer to Hazelbaker in the spring but was rejected; later, they even hired headhunters to continue the search for a candidate. Hazelbaker is a senior crisis public relations and policy expert in the tech industry. During her 11 years at Uber, she has been involved in handling company crises following the resignation of founder Travis Kalanick and also played a role in promoting California Proposition 22, helping Uber to maintain its status as independent contractors for drivers and avoid a full transition to employee status. OpenAI is currently facing security controversies, regulatory pressures, and challenges in preparation. This recruitment is not only for a brand public relations role but also for a veteran who is skilled in handling corporate reputation, regulatory negotiations, and public trust crises.
