UK service sector growth and price pressures intensify simultaneously, raising the likelihood of further interest rate hikes

According to CoinMeta, UK service sector output showed accelerated growth in October data, with further increases in price pressures. Tim Moore, the director of financial intelligence economics at S&P Global Markets, stated that this is consistent with the trend in manufacturing, indicating that an interest rate hike by the Bank of England in November is almost a foregone conclusion and raises the possibility of further tightening of monetary policy in 2027. Service providers noted that the growth rate of business activity has risen to its highest level since February, and new orders have also rebounded significantly, demonstrating that despite challenges such as geopolitical tensions, high cost pressures, and low consumer confidence, the UK economy still exhibits greater resilience. The increase in business volume is mainly due to improved potential sales opportunities, especially those related to investment spending in artificial intelligence. Input price inflation accelerated for the third consecutive month, reaching its highest level since May, with the latest round of average costs rising significantly, mainly due to increased fuel and transportation costs, wage increases, and higher energy prices.
