Indonesia Issues Its First US Dollar Bond Following the MSCI Controversy
2026-11-05 11:52:46
According to CoinMeta, the Indonesian government launched the issuance of dollar-denominated bonds on Thursday. This marks the first time that the Indonesian sovereign government has publicly announced the issuance of dollar bonds since Ming Sheng Company (MSCI) warned last month that it might remove Indonesian local stocks from its global indices. The Indonesian government is promoting a series of three tranches of Islamic bonds with maturities of 3 years, 5 years, and 10 years, with initial yield targets of approximately 5.7%, 6.1%, and 6.55%, respectively. The yield on the 3-year bonds is around 5.7%. Indonesia has an economic scale of $1.4 trillion. MSCI previously stated that Indonesia's efforts to resolve related market issues are far from sufficient, and as a result, the country may be downgraded two notches to the same investment category as markets such as Zimbabwe. Data shows that the last time the Indonesian government issued dollar bonds in the global market was in May of this year, with a issuance size of $2 billion, divided into two tranches.
