According to CoinMeta, AI shopping assistants could potentially disrupt a $74 billion advertising business. Amazon and Walmart control 88% of the $74.04 billion US retail advertising market. This issue threatens an annual market of $74.04 billion in the United States when customers stop browsing and let artificial intelligence make purchasing decisions. According to a Reuters survey on November 4th, Amazon and Walmart together account for about 88% of US retail media advertising spending. AI shopping assistants are capable of comparing products, evaluating prices, and completing purchases, allowing customers to complete transactions without viewing ads. In September, Amazon blocked Meta's Muse shopping assistant from accessing its marketplace, citing that the software was unauthorized and posed customer data concerns. Walmart, on the other hand, launched infrastructure on October 21st that allows third-party shopping assistants to interact with customer accounts. Morgan Stanley estimates that by 2030, AI assistants could handle 10%-20% of US e-commerce spending, and the industry might change the way ads reach buyers, rather than completely eliminating them.
