According to CoinMeta, as reported by Politico, the German Ministry of Defense has privately warned that too rapid a reduction in dependence on American weapons could jeopardize Germany's relations with Washington. More than a third of Germany's major weapon imports come from the United States, but an increasing number of people within the defense sector are beginning to question the reliability of Washington. The warning states that if Germany significantly distances itself from the U.S., it could not only damage the bilateral partnership but also cause Germany's military industry to lose opportunities to participate in American weapons production. The Defense Committee of the German Bundestag discussed issues related to German-U.S. defense cooperation, and the Ministry of Defense also cautioned that Germany's public desire for autonomy in weapons projects could lead to criticism from the United States. According to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, from 2021 to 2025, the United States accounted for 37% of Germany's total major weapon imports.
